When you think of luxury hotels, names like Four Seasons, Rosewood, and Ritz-Carlton probably come to mind. And while we love these brands, some of our favorite properties are smaller, independently owned hotels you may have never heard of. Think a family-owned hotel tucked into a village in Provence, a boutique retreat on a Greek island, or a beautifully restored estate in the Italian countryside. These properties may not have the marketing budgets or global recognition of major luxury brands, but that doesn't mean they can't deliver an equally exceptional experience.
So how do we find them? One of the ways is through our relationships with hotel representation companies.

What Is a Hotel Representation Company?
Most travelers have probably never heard of a hotel representation company, but these businesses play an important role in the luxury travel industry. Essentially, they work on behalf of independent hotels and smaller hospitality collections, introducing their properties to travel advisors around the world.
For example, a family-owned collection of boutique hotels in France might partner with a North American representation company to connect with luxury travel advisors in the United States. Rather than building an international sales team, the hotel works with people who already have established relationships throughout the industry. The hotel pays the representation company for its services, so there's no additional cost to our clients for us to work with these teams.

Why These Relationships Matter to Alo Travels
Some of the most interesting hotels aren't the ones with enormous advertising budgets or recognizable names. Through our relationships with representation companies, we're introduced to hotels we might not otherwise discover. We also have the opportunity to speak directly with people who know these properties inside and out.
We learn about accommodations, recent renovations, amenities, and the details that make each hotel special. But more importantly, we can ask the questions that actually matter when recommending a property to a client. Is it a good fit for families with young children? Which room categories are worth the upgrade? How convenient is the location? What type of traveler would love staying here, and who might be happier somewhere else? The answers aren't always obvious from a hotel's website. And they're often what separates a beautiful hotel from the right hotel for a particular trip.
Discovering Hotels Beyond the Big Luxury Brands
One collection that caught our attention through these industry relationships is Maisons Pariente, a family-owned French hospitality group. You may have heard of Le Grand Mazarin, its colorful boutique hotel in Paris. But you might not realize the same family is behind Lou Pinet in Saint-Tropez, Crillon Le Brave in Provence, and Le Coucou in Méribel. Each property has its own personality, setting, and style, yet they're connected by a shared approach to hospitality and design.

It's exactly the kind of discovery we love. Imagine planning a trip to Provence and searching for a beautiful place to stay. You might come across the usual well-known luxury hotels without ever discovering Crillon Le Brave. Through our industry connections, we're able to introduce you to properties that might not have been on your radar. And these discoveries extend far beyond France. We're constantly learning about independent hotels and smaller collections throughout Greece, Italy, Portugal, Spain, and beyond. Some are in destinations you already know and love. Others are tucked away in lesser-known regions that deserve a spot on your travel list.

Knowing the People Behind the Properties
Of course, discovering a beautiful hotel is only the beginning. We also want to understand what the experience is actually like. That's why we spend time meeting with hotel owners, general managers, directors of sales, and representation teams. These conversations keep us informed about everything from upcoming renovations and new guest experiences to the smaller details that can make a stay more memorable.
They also help us establish relationships with the people who can assist with coordinating our clients' visits. A beautiful website or Instagram account might initially catch our attention, but we're interested in much more than how a property photographs. We want to understand the service, atmosphere, and overall experience so we can confidently recommend it to the right traveler.

What This Means When You Book With Alo Travels
When you work with Alo Travels, you're not limited to the hotels you've already heard of or the ones that appear first in a Google search. Our job is to understand how you like to travel and connect you with properties that genuinely fit your preferences. Sometimes that's a well-known luxury brand. Other times, it's a boutique hotel you didn't even know existed. One isn't automatically better than the other. What matters is finding the right hotel for you.
And introducing our clients to places they might never have discovered on their own? That's one of our favorite parts of the job. Have a destination in mind but aren't sure where to stay? Alo Travels offers complimentary hotel booking services, and at many properties, we can arrange preferred partner benefits that add even more value to your stay. Let us help you find your next favorite hotel.
